Hunan Academy of Forestry, founded in 1958, is a public welfare scientific research institution. In 1998, it was changed from an institute into an academy with the approval of People's Government of Hunan Province. In 2001, Hunan Forestry Industry Research Institute was merged into Hunan Academy of Forestry. In 2007, it became the Hunan Branch of the Chinese Academy of Forestry with the approval of the State Forestry Administration. According to the new concept of "ecology first, green development" in the new era, Hunan Academy of Forestry closely focuses on the major scientific and technological needs of ecological protection, ecological restoration and ecological benefit to the people, and adheres to the development policy of "scientific research institutes, talented institutes, and industry revitalized institutes", carries out forestry science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship in a solid manner, and provides strong scientific and technological support for the construction of an ecologically strong province. It has successively been awarded the titles of "National Advanced Group for Outstanding Contribution to Ecological Construction", "National Advanced Group for Forestry Science and Technology Work", "Advanced Unit for Provincial Forestry Science and Technology Work", and "Civilized Model Unit of Provincial Organizations".
